A good exterior paint job protects wood and fiber cement surfaces from moisture and sun as much as it improves how your home looks. Family Tree Roofing paints home exteriors, including siding, trim, fascia, soffit and doors, with careful preparation so the finish lasts.

What we paint

  • Siding: wood, fiber cement and engineered wood siding.
  • Trim, fascia and soffit: the edges that weather fastest.
  • Doors, shutters and garage doors.
  • New siding and trim that needs a finish after installation.

Preparation is most of the job

Paint fails early when it goes over dirt, chalking, loose paint or damaged wood. Before painting we clean the surfaces, scrape and sand loose paint, repair or replace damaged boards, caulk gaps, and prime bare material. Then the finish coats go on. We cover plants, walkways and windows before we start, treat your property the way we would our own, and clean up when we are done.

When to repaint

  • Peeling, cracking or blistering paint.
  • Faded or chalky surfaces that rub off on your hand.
  • Bare wood showing at trim and fascia.
  • After siding, trim or step-flashing repairs, so new and old surfaces match.

Painting with siding and roofing work

If you are planning siding repairs, fascia replacement or a new roof, it often makes sense to schedule painting right after, so new materials are finished and everything matches.

Step flashing is a common reason. Where a roof meets a wall, we strongly prefer installing new step flashing, and doing that properly can mean removing and resetting siding or trim along the wall. Painting the repaired area afterward keeps it from standing out, and because the same company handles the roof, the siding and the paint, nobody is left patching someone else’s work.

Exterior painting questions

Can vinyl siding be painted?

It can, but vinyl expands and contracts, so the paint color and product have to suit vinyl. We will tell you honestly whether painting or replacing makes more sense for your siding.

How long does an exterior paint job take?

It depends on the size of the home, the amount of prep and the weather. We will give you a schedule with your estimate.
