Jenks shares the Tulsa area’s storm season, and hail is one of the most common reasons roofs here are replaced. If a storm just came through, this page walks you through what to do, what hail damage looks like and how we can help.
Roofing in Jenks: what’s different
Jenks sits on the west bank of the Arkansas River about six miles from our office, home to the Riverwalk, the Oklahoma Aquarium and 25,949 residents (2020 Census). The May 21, 2024 storm dropped 2-inch hail both southwest and east of Jenks, with golf-ball hail over much of the rest of the city, and the June 17, 2023 wind event brought 81-mph gusts — exactly the kind of events that justify a documented inspection. We photograph every slope, mark test squares and put what we find in writing. The city’s published code page still lists the 2015 IRC, so we confirm current permit and code requirements with the Jenks building department (918-556-7439) before each job rather than assume them.
Hail season in the Tulsa area
The National Weather Service office in Tulsa studied nearly 50 years of hail reports at Tulsa International Airport. It found that a location in the metro area can expect hail about two to three times a year on average. Hail has been reported in every month, with the peak from mid-April to mid-May and a smaller peak in November.
Not every hailstorm damages a roof, but the damage hail does cause is easy to miss from the ground.
What to do after a hailstorm
- Stay safe and stay off the roof. Wet or damaged shingles are slippery, and hidden damage can make footing unsafe.
- Take photos from the ground. Dented gutters and downspouts, marks on siding, dented air conditioner fins, torn screens, shingle pieces in the yard and granules washing out of downspouts are all worth recording.
- Protect your home if water is coming in. Move belongings, catch drips and, for an active leak, see emergency roof repair.
- Schedule a free roof inspection. We get on the roof and photograph what we find.
- Check your policy. Report a claim the way your policy requires. Your insurance company sets the deadlines and decides what is covered.
- Check any contractor before you sign. Look up their Oklahoma registration on the Construction Industries Board’s public search.
Signs of hail damage
01
Bruised or cracked shingles
Dark spots where hail knocked granules off, or soft spots that feel like a bruise on fruit.
02
Granules in gutters
A heavy wash of granules after a storm can mean the shingle surface took hits.
03
Dents in roof metal
Dented vents, flashing and gutters are a useful clue to the size and direction of the hail.
04
Damage around the house
Dinged siding, window screens and air conditioner fins often go along with roof damage.
05
Torn or missing shingles
High wind usually comes with hail, and lifted or missing shingles can let water in.
06
New leaks or stains
Water stains on ceilings or in the attic after a storm need attention quickly.
Many of these signs are hard to judge from the ground, which is why we inspect the roof itself and photograph what we find.
Documentation in your hands before the adjuster visits
After hail, our order of work does not change: inspect the roof and the rest of the property, photograph the damage, write a complete estimate for the work that is genuinely needed, and then sit down with you and explain it. You leave with a documentation package, the photos plus the estimate, that you can give your insurance company yourself if you choose to file.
Having that package before the adjuster arrives means each item we recorded can be checked against the roof itself. What we do not do is file the claim for you, read your policy for you or tell you what will be approved. Those decisions sit with you and your insurer.

Rebuilding stronger
If hail damage means a new roof, it is the right moment to ask about upgrades. Impact-resistant shingles are designed to better withstand hail, and a FORTIFIED Roof adds a sealed roof deck, stronger nailing and reinforced edges. We will explain the added cost so you can decide.

Frequently asked questions
How soon after a storm should my roof be inspected?
As soon as it is safe. Small damage can let water in over time, and your insurance policy may set deadlines for reporting a claim.
Will you deal with my insurance company for me?
No. We give you our photos, findings and estimate as a documentation package you can share with your insurer yourself. We do not file claims or interpret your policy, and your insurance company decides what is covered.
Can I upgrade to impact-resistant shingles when I replace my roof?
Yes. We can include impact-resistant options in your estimate. Some insurers offer a discount for them, so ask your agent.
What should I do if door-to-door roofers show up after a storm?
Take your time. Ask for their Oklahoma roofing registration number and look it up on the Construction Industries Board’s public search before you sign anything.
